In August 2023, German fashion influencer Xenia Adonts — who boasts around 2 million followers — faced a nightmare when her Paris apartment was repeatedly targeted in a violent and calculated burglary.

Here’s what happened:

  • Three separate break-ins occurred in a single night.
    • The first was triggered when her partner noticed suspicious activity on their security camera and notified the police — but no action was taken immediately because the footage didn’t show explicit wrongdoing.
    • The criminals returned and completely ransacked the apartment: smashing mirrors and lamps, destroying walls and glass, tearing off the balcony, and stealing valuables — even ripping a safe from its wall.
  • During the third intrusion, Xenia’s assistant was present. The burglars tied her up and threatened her with knives. Yet she managed to slip away into the bathroom and lock herself inside, sending Xenia a frantic SOS emoji that revealed the danger unfolding.

The ordeal lasted many hours before authorities finally arrived — six police officers and three detectives showed up after the third break-in.

It wasn’t until March 2024 that the perpetrators were arrested. But while the legal process moved forward, the emotional and psychological fallout for Xenia was immediate and lasting. (source)

A Safe Space No More

Xenia Adonts

Xenia described her apartment as a safe haven for nearly five years. Losing that sanctity, in such a violent way, was shattering. She’s no longer living in Paris and continues to reel from the trauma of knowing how easily someone violated her home and safety.

Why This Matters

  • Visibility doesn’t equate to safety: Even individuals who manage their online image cautiously are still vulnerable to physical threats.
  • Surveillance systems alone aren’t protection: Despite having footage to alert authorities, a delayed police response made no difference when the burglars struck again.
  • The emotional toll is profound: Feeling unsafe in your own home can fundamentally shake your sense of security and well-being.

At Onyx, we’re committed to diving deep into these real-life moments so we can better understand how online and offline security intersect — and what it takes to help people reclaim their sense of safety.
